A new performance for marimba and string quartet in Savona
Mario Carro’s work Dance Me for marimba and string quartet will receive its Italian premiere on May 28, 2026, at the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea in Savona, performed by the Quintetto Legni Pregiati, an ensemble formed by musicians of the Teatro Regio di Torino.
The concert explores contemporary approaches to minimalism, rhythm, resonance, and timbral fusion through works by Philip Glass, Robert Honstein, Carlo Galante, Marc Mellits, Andy Akiho, and Mario Carro. Within this context, Dance Me emerges as one of the central pieces of the program.
In Dance Me, Carro creates a sound world in which marimba and strings merge into a single expressive body. Built around the key of G major and a recurring harmonic progression, the work unfolds through an intense rhythmic dialogue and a lyrical, emotionally charged musical language. The composition gradually evolves toward a rarefied and suspended ending, bringing the concert to a contemplative close.
The performance will feature violinists Ivana Nicoletta and Luigi Presta, violist Federico Carraro, cellist Paola Perardi, and marimbist Lavinio Carminati, all distinguished musicians associated with the Teatro Regio di Torino.
The Quintetto Legni Pregiati was founded with the aim of exploring the unique timbral affinity between strings and marimba — instruments united by the resonant and organic qualities of wood. Their artistic vision seeks a perfectly integrated ensemble sound, without hierarchy among the performers, allowing the music to unfold as a single living organism.
The concert will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea in Savona, Italy.
