Spanish Premiere of Olas Transparentes by Rafa Gálvez

The Spanish premiere of Olas Transparentes, by composer Mario Carro, will take place at the Real Teatro de Retiro in Madrid, performed by the distinguished percussionist Rafa Gálvez. Written for solo marimba and inspired by the poetry of Rosalía de Castro, the work evokes the fluidity, melancholy, and luminous resonance of the poet’s voice through the shimmering timbres of the instrument.

The premiere will be featured on Sunday, November 16, 2025, during two morning performances at the Real Teatro de Retiro, as part of the family concert “¿Te suena El mandarín maravilloso?”—a new chapter of the “¿Te suena?” series, created by the Teatro Real to bring opera and contemporary music closer to audiences of all ages. Guided by Fernando Palacios, this educational and participatory event explores the sound world of Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and The Miraculous Mandarin through storytelling, songs, and live performance.

Rafa Gálvez, a prominent figure in Spanish percussion and a member of both the National Orchestra of Spain and Neopercusión, brings his deep commitment to contemporary music to this occasion. His interpretation of Olas Transparentes will mark the work’s first performance in Spain, offering audiences a rare encounter with Carro’s refined and poetic sound world within an atmosphere of discovery, curiosity, and musical imagination.
