A new work by Mario Carro for tenor and marimba at FMUC 2026

On May 29, 2026, Poemas de la Isla, a new work by composer Mario Carro, will be premiered at the Auditorio de Tenerife as part of the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Tenerife (FMUC).

Written for tenor and marimba—an uncommon pairing that offers a distinctive sonic palette—the piece will be performed by tenor Airam Hernández and marimbist Verónica Cagigao, bringing to the stage a combination that is rarely heard and yields a particularly engaging result.

The program also includes works by José Luis Perdigón, Samuel Aguilar, and Sergio Blardony.

Poemas de la Isla is inspired by and sets texts by the Canary Islands poet Josefina de la Torre. Structured in three songs—I. Me busco y no me encuentro, II. Si ha de ser, and III. Remolinos del aire—the work explores themes of introspection, mortality, and a deep connection with the natural world.
