Laura Gayoso performs Mario Carro’s piano miniature at the International Festival of Ibero-American Music of Madrid.
On 5 June 2026, pianist Laura Gayoso will perform Río de Cristal (2019) by Mario Carro as part of the 10th International Festival of Ibero-American Music of Madrid (FIMIM).
The performance will take place at the Municipal School of Music and Dance of Pozuelo de Alarcón and forms part of a concert dedicated to contemporary music, featuring works by leading living composers alongside compositions by students from the Composition Department of the Conservatorio “Teresa Berganza”.
Río de Cristal was inspired by a poem by Juan Ramón Jiménez. Lasting approximately three minutes, the work unfolds through a repetitive and crystalline musical texture that descends continuously and fluidly from the piano’s highest register towards the middle range. This gradual journey ultimately reaches a long-awaited musical stillness, bringing the piece to a serene conclusion.
The work was originally commissioned by pianist Luis González Lladó for inclusion in his album Preludes for a young pianist (IBS Classical), a project devoted to contemporary piano miniatures.
Laura Gayoso’s performance will be presented by Sonus Ipsum, the Contemporary Music Ensemble of the Municipal School of Music and Dance of Pozuelo de Alarcón, under the direction of Antonio Pérez Díaz. The programme showcases a wide range of current musical voices, reaffirming the festival’s commitment to the promotion of contemporary creation and Ibero-American repertoire.
The programme includes works by Alejandro Román, Carlos Cruz de Castro, Clotilde Rosa, Hermes Luaces, Mario Carro, Héctor Oltra, Armando Alfonso, Regina Artero, Rubén Martínez, Eugenia Gabrieluk, Carlos V. Medina and Francisco Fernández-Dávila, among others.
